Whenever DJ Sonoflono goes fishing, he will come back to port with his nets
chockfull of fresh catch. He knows his aural treasures hook, line and sinker
and there is nothing in the whole wide ocean that he won’t use for this sonic
bouillabaisse - be it small, like the petite plankton of popcorn, or big, like
the white whale of wonky soul.
Arranged in triplets of the same era, genre, theme, or speed, and interspersed
with ocean-themed snippets, the June installment of the HOLY MACKERAL is truly
international.
Our
journey starts with three Cajun Swamp Rockabilly tunes, after which we cross
over to a set of Egyptian-themed dancers. Back to Lousiana, where you can hear
a special kind of Halloween music, before we indulge in the rare genre of
„Songs with a James Bond girl in the title“.
Everybody
is imitating something: Italy has its own take on American popular music of the
50s, while the U.S. of A. have their share of silly Asian-themed songs.
Boxing
is all about being able to lose, so the next set was originally intended for
Swiss champ Arnold Gjergjaj. Now it is a tribute to the late great Greatest,
Muhammad Ali. We will close off with three fine examples of mind-f***ing
instrumentals which remind you of famous tunes you can’t come up with.
